On Saturday I realized at about 7 pm that the movie Spiral was playing a couple of blocks from my house at 9. I worked on Spiral a couple of years ago as an extra and I loved it. LOVED it! So I hurried and finished dying my hair red, as I was told at work I wasn’t allowed to go pink (for now) and I rushed off to the theatre to see if I could see myself on the big screen.
Indigo and Just and PirateLara all watched the movie which was actually pretty good despite the lighting being strange – but alas, all the sections where I was an extra… cut. Go figure. The thing was, I wasn’t even bothered! I had so much fun working on that set that I didn’t care whether I made it in or not. So, yeah, score on that one!
Then on Sunday I went to casting call for extras for the film ‘Twilight’ based on the Stephanie Meyer books.
Funny thing about that casting call. I got the set of books from D for Christmas and haven’t read them but multiple people I know have and either love them or hate them so I am waiting for the hype to die down so I can read them without being caught in other people’s opinions. However, I saw the casting call and the notice that most of the filming will be done here in Oregon and Washington – so I decided to go.
It turns out that I was standing in line with 800 kids and all their parents. I’m still in the bracket of what they were looking for but there must have been all of five adults in the casting line that weren’t there with their children. I waited for 5 hours to get my picture and fill out the info. Being that is was only a casting call for background work, which is sort of my favorite because I can have the set experience without the drama, it’s iffy whether they will actually need someone like me. But god! It sounds like fun.
Five hours of people watching and eavesdropping on the kids as they talked excitedly amongst themselves about the characters and the adventure of being in a movie.
I got home frozen from sitting on the cement floor of the warehouse but inside I was alight with possibilities. Evidently, I’m not too old to still get giddy about such things.
So it was a productive weekend feeling like my spirit touched things that make me happy. Yesterday I wandered around town with Admiral Fubar, went to the City of Books and rode the MAX across town to the last station then turned around and came back. Dessert with Skysidhe at Pix and a long conversation with Pha over the phone.
I woke up this morning with the Indiana Jones theme song in my head – and as we all know, I only get that stuck in my head when the call to adventure beckons and the road looks less traveled. Something is in the air. Da da-da DAH! Da da dah dah DA!
