The Women Who Rock’s tribute to Lucinda Williams was AWESOME!

A dozen beautiful women with siren voices and amazing music.

I

Had

A

Blast!

I was feeling really good about the chance to hang out with people I’m becoming friends with.  Musicians I’ve been seeing at gigs for over a year, getting more comfortable with their quirks and finally getting more comfortable asking for what I need to get a better shot.

I remember when I first started doing band photography a couple of years ago – I was maxing out my zoom from the third row because I was scared to go up to the stage.  Even though I’d been asked – paid – to go up and get pictures, I was nervous about getting too close.  I didn’t want to be bothersome, or throw off their groove.

I’m still uncomfortable to a degree, but I’m much more secure wandering through the greenroom, moving instruments, asking the lighting guys to change something, standing in front of people who are watching the show, and even getting on stage to get the picture I need.

It’s getting easier, and tons more fun. It helps that I like the people I work with and that I respect their art and music.  Obviously there are some songstresses that are my favorite performers and when they sing I forget I’m supposed to be taking pictures because I get caught in the spell with everyone else. I love those moments!

Here are some of the pictures of Women Who Rock.  I haven’t had a chance to sort and upload all of them as I took over a hundred.

I strongly encourage you all to support your local musicians.  Support Women Who Rock and all their talent.  It was multiple times Saturday night that I stopped everything I was doing to listen to a powerful voice or watch a dynamic performer.  If you haven’t been to one of their shows yet – you are totally missing out.
