The family drove back this morning before the sun was up.

I had such a great weekend. I really did. Looking forward to it for weeks and getting ready and couldn’t wait to show them everything only to realize that when they got here, they had other things in mind. Cool! That works too!

Crepes on 23rd, wandering downtown on a fabulously sunny day for the Saturday Market, sunburns and vendor food and trinkets. Vietnamese food and the park and an overcast rainy day at the beach. All in two days of what I call the “Portland slam tour”.

I adore my family. Yet it amazes me how they can bring out the neurotic parts of me that I never seem to exhibit unless they are around. Whether it’s my Dad, my sisters or my brothers – they can somehow draw forth the parts of me I am least comfortable with, most horrified by and ultimately nothing like I am around my friends or lovers.

They bring out my hidden or dormant personality and I rarely walk away from encounters with my family without feeling the need to cave and wonder “What the fuck was THAT? What’s wrong with me?”

Anyway, I’m still recovering from happy chaos but I’ll update as soon as I catch my breath.
