Okay, here’s to my 90 day challengers.
You officially have 90 days to think, act and take small steps toward a better balance in your life. The easiest and best way to do this is baby-steps.
Laura: My challenge to you this week is to ask the universe for a bike. Once or twice a day just think about it for 7 days. Imagine yourself riding it. Where would you go? What will it look like? What will it feel like to have the wind around your body and the sun on your face? Also, I challenge you to make a list, just a list of all the things that stress you out. All the things you feel like you need to get done. Just write it out on a piece of scratch paper but don’t touch anything on the list till you check back in. Ready. Set. Go!
Sondra: I challenge you to say, “No.” for a whole week. Say no to going places or doing things or spreading out your energies to keep up with everyone else. I challenge you to say no to people who take you for granted. If you say no to everyone else for one week while at the same time saying YES to yourself – I think something cool will happen. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. Meanwhile, I want you to take 5 deep breaths every morning before you leave the house. GO!
Megan: You are off the hook while your parents are visiting. But as soon as you can I challenge you to spend two hours. One on one day and one on another at a second hand store. Let your imagination run wild with the things you could alter. Touch fabrics. Handle books. Play with trinkets. Here’s the catch – It’s a date-with you and no one else. I can’t go. Bunny can’t go. You have to schedule time to go alone and be with the creative goddess inside. She wants to speak to you when no one else can hear. Two hours of your time is all she’s asking. I dare you!
ResilientMonkey: I challenge you to a list as well. A list of your finances. You don’t have to show anyone, just write it down so it’s not cluttering your head or your energetic space. Work on the list when you have the energy. Also, I challenge you to spend a week taking an evening stroll. Wander around the block after the air has stilled from the day’s bustle of life. Just a stroll. Just around the block. If you go five times this week and check back I think you’ll enjoy it. It might even inspire you. Ready. Set. You’re on!
Did I forget anyone?
This morning I started my new eating plan. It worries me because it includes a lot of dairy – which I’ve been avoiding – but I absolutely need more protein in my diet and short of eating meat three meals a day I don’t think I can get enough without dairy.
Here’s the scoop and what helped inspire the 90 day plan.
Most of you are in the loop that I try not to eat gluten or dairy. My body just feels better when I abstain. As I’ve felt more flexible and cognitive – there is a definite correlation between those two things in my diet and my wellbeing.
However, since I’ve been doing no gluten no dairy, I’ve noticed such a drastic change in my weight and skin and nails and hair that on my last visit to the Naturopath, we did some blood work.
My triglycerides are ridiculously high, I have abnormal cholesterol and evidently a hormonal imbalance (which interestingly also manifests as a thyroid deficiency). My protein levels are drastically low and because I don’t eat wheat – I eat rice like it’s going out of style. Nearly every meal. Sometimes four cups of rice a day. ‘
So, out of curiosity, I charted my protein versus carbohydrate intake on any given day and although I was still only consuming 1800 calories and working out I was still plateaued at 170lbs. with get this 220 grams of carbohydrates (simple carbs) and 30 grams of protein.
Uhoh! Not good. No wonder I’m still not feeling strong. I need a good 70 grams of Protein and I shouldn’t be exceeding 140carbs (of the simple variety), right? So to further curiosity I started researching. I want to feel healthy and strong and be my best self or at least well on my way toward my best self for my 30th. So I started reading.
And what I have been putting together in theory – I want to try for 90 days.
I am going to boost my protein along with including supplements and more vitamins and amino acids. I want to see if I feel better in 90 days. Unfortunately, I am also going to include cottage cheese, yogurt and more soy product into my diet which could potentially bring with it – the dreaded big bloat. Anywhoo, I figure I can deal with that for 90 days to see if it makes a difference. If it does, then I will have to find other ways to get a full 70-80 grams of protein into my diet without dairy. So, pretty much I’m experimenting. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes. Along with that inspiration I figured there are other things I can work on to improve the quality of my life in 90 days. I will keep you posted on those as well.
For right now, I am ready and excited to see what I can do and I’m hyper motivated. Here’s to the 90 day challenge. Ready. Set. GO!
