Last night was a tremendous hit! If you couldn’t make it to the birthday bash this year then hopefully you can make it next time!

We went to Olive or Twist where the group of us ordered something of nearly everything to try and sample and revel in. Martini’s were floating up and down the table with phrases like, “Oh my god, you have to try this!” and “This is amazing try this one!”

I delighted in the baked brie, the Pearl martini and the Peruvian. We passed around a chocolate sinkhole which made me feel a lot like I was slipping into something silky and dimming the lights.

Then of course there was the spicy peach martini – I have no idea how a mere drink can make it seem sexy to have the back of your throat singed and still manage to make your body tingle and a smile stretch your lips. It creates a delicious throbbing sensation that leaves you feeling scandalously tantalized.

Mostly, though, the greatest pleasure of the evening was spending time with my people. I realized I’ve been so busy, new projects, new adventures and that I am going constantly – and it was wonderful to check in, soak up the news of lives I’ve missed and hug bodies of friends I cherish. I didn’t realize till last night how dry my life gets when I am too frantic and stray from the nourishing shade of people whom I love.

This year, my exact minute of birth was marked by a full lunar eclipse at 5:55pm PDT on the 5th of August. Exactly to the moment I was born 31 years ago. On that cosmic note I begin 31 with new resolutions to be wiser, more loving, more adventurous, more in command of the nature of my existence so that I might have great stories to tell for the rest of my life and wonderful people to experience them with.

Because if that’s not the whole point – I don’t know what is.

I’d like to make a shout out to Sam, who is the owner of Olive or Twist and say, “Thank you Sam, for being such a fantastic host. You have a wonderful spot here in town, and I believe the biggest draw is that you are there greeting all your patrons and ushering them into a relaxing and decadent evening with your southern-style charm, hospitality and easy smile. I have felt well cared for by you and look forward to visiting over and over.”
